Despite being a stagnant character throughout season 1 and 2, Echo is still one of my favorite members of the bad batch. I’m glad that he ended up with the Bad Batch as shown in Clone Wars season 7, and that he ultimately survived the explosion from the Citadel arc. Echo always wants to go where he feels he belongs, so it was fitting that he chose to join the Bad Batch and then (spoilers) joins Rex in his effort to rally clones and fight for his brothers. Choosing to go with the Bad was probably the best possible thing he could have done in that situation. Had he ended up staying with Rex and the 501st, who knows what would’ve happened to him during Order 66 since he couldn’t enact it without his chip. When the order was given, he was surrounded by other clones (besides the regs fighting alongside Kanan and Depa Billaba) that were not affected by the command (since their whole purpose is to be less prone to following orders, expressing creativity and individuality; to be useful on the battlefield with their enhanced abilities). I won’t discredit the moments where Echo is seen making small progression in his character though. In the episode where they visit Sorreno, Echo teaches Omega a valuable lesson about letting go of expendable things like treasure and what they came there to steal. It was a matter of living or pursuing something silly in that case and dying in the process. I might add that Echo was also the only member of TBB that actually served under a legion of clones and actively took part in several missions assigned by the Republic. TBB also went on many missions as well, but likely not as often as a traditional clone (or former arc trooper in this case). He’s shown his knowledge on the Clone Wars a few times, and a hint of his military experience which I like. It’s cool to see how Echo becomes a key functioning member of the team and shows his intuition in knowing where he’s needed most. In spite of all this, I’m really scared to see what they do with his character going forward. I hope that (spoilers) they aren’t going the route of picking off the team one by one starting with Tech. I hope that in the next season we can see that same treatment of character development that we saw with Tech in this season (though I hope that won’t mean they will kill him off right after). Echo is the last member of domino squad left. If they kill him off, it’ll be a devastating blow to the fan base and personally something I’m not ready for. Everyone for a time thought that Echo was long dead during the Clone Wars, so I don’t know what an onscreen death for him would look like. It’s something I don’t even like to imagine. Over the course of this season (despite having some filler and excess that could’ve been left out like S1) I’ve grown really attached to the whole team, and Tech was a hard supposed death to see unfold. Let me know what kind of fate you see playing out for the rest of the crew in Season 3 of The Bad Batch. Thanks for reading and remember, the force will be with you always!
