I tried posting this twice on Reddit this morning but they deleted it both times. Here's my theory. In the Phantom Menace currently on Disney Plus at countdown timer 1:51:35 R2D2 bumps into Jar Jar, delaying R2 one second from exiting the ship to repair the Deflector Shields. As R2 exits the ship you can clearly see a giant laser blast at 1:51:30 shot from the Trade Federation skim R2 by a millimeter. Also the droid that exits the ship right before R2 gets blasted into Oblivion by that same weapon. So if R2 never bumped into Jar Jar, R2D2's story in the Skywalker saga would be extremely short-lived. Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, Padme etc. probably wouldn't have survived their escape from Naboo. I believe George intentionally did this to show us at that exact moment the force had something to do with Jar Jars clumsiness that actually saved / prevented R2's demise.I tried posting this twice on Reddit this morning but they deleted it both times.
