I had written this theory before on a YouTube comment, however that was on an old Star Wars Theory livestream video, so I’ll write it here. 🙂
So, Anakin = chosen one, the light side. Maybe Snoke = chosen one, the dark side. He could possibly be a dark side entity, or the dark side itself, manifested into an almost physical body.
Anakin failed his attempt to stay as the light side, therefore making the force unbalanced. Plagueis may have tampered with this, with his Sith alchemy/sorcery into making a being purely born from the Force, which made Anakin very emotionally unbalanced, therefore causing him to fall to the dark side.
Since Anakin failed, Rey is now taking his place as the light side in physical form, but Snoke isn’t having any of it, and wants only the dark side to be in power, hence why he wants to see her so badly — to destroy her and the light.
So maybe Rey doesn’t have any parents, she’s born from the Force just like Anakin was; but something has happened to make her forget all of it.
But, the galaxy needs both of them to try and keep a balance, and to explore the grey areas in between.
What do you think, have I missed anything? Do you agree or disagree? I’d love to hear your opinions.October 21, 2017 at 11:52 pm #3494

Truly wonderful is the mind of a young echo. But seriously thats great theory i think it could be true, we shall see. Keep up the good work!October 22, 2017 at 12:25 am #3495

Love to read this i did, a great and maybe truthful theory this is. Keep looking towards the light you must. A reality this might be, but wait and see we must.October 24, 2017 at 3:50 am #3561
Remember that balance is according to your point of view.
The idea would be then, what ending would make the most sense?
Who is alive at the end of episode IX?
This may determine how we get our next light v dark battle.
Or will they go into the ‘legends’ world and chose a completely external group…October 25, 2017 at 12:20 pm #3592
Yeah that’s true, though in the Star Wars universe, everyone seems to be set on very similar points of view on what the “balance” is. It seems like the movie will be something like:
‘We thought 2 Jedi and 2 Sith was a balance. Nah, let’s both Jedi and Sith learn the light and the dark so everyone and everything has equal balance.’
It also seems like they’re telling the Jedi not to be afraid of the dark side, and for the Sith not to be so insistent on avoiding the light. That would make a good story, I think. 🙂
Like you said, DarthGenius, they could take a completely different route altogether, so we’ll have to wait and see. Meanwhile, we shall theorise as much as possible!!October 26, 2017 at 3:44 am #3658
Let us then leave it in the words of wisdom of ghost Obi-Wan:
Everything is a question of point of view.
I do hope they continue to provide an interesting storyline so as to keep the franchise going in the right direction.October 26, 2017 at 1:28 pm #3666
@DarthGenius same here, don’t want it to be a rehash or using an excuse of ‘the Force’ for everything that happens. Which unfortunately they did a lot of in TFA.
Different director this time — Rian Johnson. Hopefully he won’t disappoint! TLJ trailer looked pretty good.October 26, 2017 at 3:14 pm #3673

@DarthGenius @echo You both bring up a good point with the balance. If we think about it, all of SW has been about establishing balances.
In the prequels there were hundreds of Jedi and only a handful of Sith, but by the end there were 2 Sith and 2 Jedi.
Then during the OT, those 2 Jedi became 3 (4 if you include Leia, but I wouldn’t consider her a force user by then). By the end, we had 1 Jedi and 0 Sith – an imbalance.
This leads to the current trilogy, where we start off with Snoke, Kylo and the knights of Ren all Dark side users, and then just Luke, Rey and possibly Leia as light side users; 7 dark side vs 3 light side – an imbalance.
So notice how it went from: too many light side users>balance>too many light side users>balance>too many dark side users.
So when Luke says “it’s time for the Jedi to end” I think what he’s really saying is: light side inevitably creates an opposite dark side, so we need to get rid of the Jedi and just be grey in the middle.
Now going back to Rey, what’s her role, I think she’ll be the great equalizer. I think Rey and Kylo by the end of Ep9 will both be grey force users – this will bring balance to the force. I think Luke, Leia, Snoke, the knights of Ren and any other major force users will die too, in order to maintain this balance.October 26, 2017 at 3:42 pm #3677

I think that Rey is definitely some sort of divine antithesis for Snoke. She is somehow destined to destroy, or offset, his dark side entity. When you think about it, the two of them have a lot in common. Apart from the fact that the viewers have no clue who either of them really are, in the latest trailer we have Rey saying the line “Then I was awake.” According to the Star Wars Theory youtube channel (which I have firm trust in) Snoke was awakened by order 66, though he was still entombed. I think that Rey was similarly awakened by some event, which could have been something Luke Skywalker did on Ach-To, and is a sort of anti-Snoke. It’s also possible that it wasn’t Rey herself who was awakened, but some force entity existing within Rey.
This would be the Force’s way of maintaining balance within itself, kind of like how it created Anakin possibly for the very purpose of destroying the Jedi so that it could regain balance. And if the Force’s goal is to maintain its balance, then it’s likely that throughout the next two movies we’ll see either all of the force users die (which I find unlikely because it eliminates the possibility of a sequel trilogy) or both Luke and Snoke will die, destroying the highly volatile “force parasite” that is Snoke, and we’ll see the knights of Ren killed off as well. This leaves Rey and Kylo who could both start a sort of Gray-Jedi order. Assuming Kylo decides to stop being such a phsychopathic sith-maniac (which is possible, we’ve seen it before).October 27, 2017 at 8:45 pm #3707
Again read too much in the fact that they Gray Jedi seem to want to take over is not necessarily a good thing. If this does happen, then all that is left is a battle of the FO v the Resistance or whatever they will want to call themselves afterwards.
I feel it would suck to have only ‘neutral’ Force users at the end of this trilogy.
The whole Jedi v Sith is central to SW, or better yet Light v Dark.
So if the Force is in balance, what would cause another unbalance to happen?
Either an unbalance will again exist or a ‘balance’ that could still lead into one side gaining more followers later.
