Kylo Ren. He is a fictional character, the new Star Wars villain brought to life by actor Adam Driver and who made his debut in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Kylo Ren, born Ben, was a Force-sensitive human who was a member of the Knights of Ren and an ally of the First Order who lived approximately thirty years after the Battle of Endor.

Born the son of Rebel heroes Princess Leia Organa and smuggler Han Solo, Ben was apprenticed by his uncle Luke Skywalker to become a Jedi Knight in his newly created Jedi Order. However, believing himself to be too weak to live up to his grandfather's legacy as a Jedi, Ben was drawn to the dark side of the Force by a mysterious Force-user named Snoke. Taking the name Kylo Ren, Ben destroys his uncle's New Order, making Luke Skywalker disappear and Kylo becoming one of the Knights of Ren within the First Order.

Trying to find and destroy his maternal uncle before he could rebuild the Order, in the process he manages to capture Resistance pilot Poe Dameron who hid a map to locate Jedi Knight in his BB-8 droid, who ends up in Jakku where he manages to befriend the scavenger Rey and the defecting First Order soldier Finn.

After locating them on Takodana, Kylo Ren captures Rey and attempts to read her mind with the Force knowing that she had seen the map, but she escaped when the Resistance staged an attack on Starkiller Base. In the battle, Kylo killed his father, Han Solo, believing it was his father's light that was weakening him in the Force. Wounded by Chewbacca, Kylo chased Rey and Finn with him into a lightsaber duel in which he critically wounded Finn, but was also wounded when confronting Rey. With Starkiller Base imploding, Supreme Leader Snoke instructed General Hux to leave the base with Ren to bring him before him and complete his training.

Powers and abilities

Like his grandfather, his maternal uncle, and his mother, Kylo Ren had a powerful connection to the Force. He was adept at the use of telekinesis, being able to use it to totally immobilize Poe Dameron and Rey in place, stop a laser blast in mid-air for a long period of time after focusing, and send Poe Dameron flying into the air. Rey with a Force push. Ren was also able to telepathically torture people like he did Poe Dameron, and use the power of a mind probe to telepathically extract information from the victims from him.

Ren was also able to detect disturbances in the Force, such as when he sensed an awakening in the Force and Han Solo's presence at Starkiller Base. However, his lightsaber skills would be lacking in comparison, being defeated by Rey without any training in lightsaber combat. However, this was probably due to the fact that he had been injured by Chewbacca before their fight. The dark warrior possessed a strong tolerance for physical pain, being able to continue fighting despite being shot by Chewbacca and wounded by Finn and Rey.[

The two side blades of Kylo's lightsaber also serve to reduce the chance of receiving a cho mai or to execute a shiim more easily.

Kylo Ren's lightsaber is one of the strangest of all since they were not widely used by the Sith and less so by the Jedi. This is a very old model dating back to the times of the Old Republic. The unstable appearance of the saber blade is due to the use of a fractured Kyber Crystal. A green-bladed variant of that model was found by Ezra Bridger on Malachor.
