So I recently read through the first two volumes of the Dawn of the Jedi comic series (if you want my thoughts on it, it’s no Legacy but the writer and artist are the same and they do a good job), and at first I didn’t think much about this, but I feel like there is an inconsistency regarding Tython between DOTJ and SWTOR.

In the first issue, it’s established that the Je’daii, as they were known roughly 35,000-25,000 before Episode IV, maintained a perilous balance between the light and dark sides of the Force. Since Tython was orbited by two moons with different Force alignments (Ashla with the light and Bogan with the dark), any imbalance would result in, as Issue 1 says, “severe storms and quakes.” Similarly, any Je’daii who were drawn closer to one side would be imprisoned on the corresponding moon and left there until they craved the opposite side again. This occurs with the Rakatan Force Hound Xesh when he discovers Tython, causing a severe Force maelstrom until it is quelled by the Je’daii and he is sent to Bogan.

When Darth Vitiate’s Sith Empire attacked Coruscant, the temple was destroyed and the many surviving Jedi were blamed by the Senate. As such they were forced to retreat to Tython and raised new apprentices from there while also aiding the Republic from time to time.

Here is my problem: the Jedi at the time of SWTOR were in strict adherence to the light side, but since I don’t remember hearing about any ongoing natural disasters when I was playing the Tython missions of the game, it seems that the planet already exists in balance. I know these moons are not in SWTOR since that game preceded DOTJ, but I feel like there should be an official lore reason for why the Jedi can occupy Tython without reaching into the dark as much as the light. There are two possible explanations that I’ve thought of: 1) there are Jedi masters who secretly use the dark side to balance the pull from Ashla and Bogan and are kept completely hidden (not sure how the Jedi could allow this without it coming back to bite them somehow), or 2) because players can choose light and dark side actions in dialogue, perhaps the story compensates for the balance by accepting that there are multiple students of the Force on Tython (aka the many orange-robed Padawans throughout the environment) and some of are trained to focus on light and dark equally (again, not sure how this would work because of how dogmatic the Jedi are in that game, such as Jaric Kaedan in his refusal to accept Kira Carsten when her past as a Child of the Emperor is revealed to council). Are there any other possible reasons or precedents in the lore for why the Jedi can focus on the light while hiding out on Tython? I have not read volume 3 of DOTJ yet so I can’t say whether or not that story arc resolves this.
