Grogu, known to many simply as "the Kid", was a Force-sensitive Mandalorian foundling and Jedi initiate who belonged to the same species as Jedi Grand Master Yoda and Jedi Master Yaddle. Grogu was born around 41 BBY and raised in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

Grogu was kept in a hideout operated by Nikto mercenaries on Arvala-7 during the New Republic Era, having survived the siege of the Jedi Temple decades earlier. When he was still an infant at the age of fifty, he was sought out, at the request of Moff Gideon, by an Imperial who hired a Mandalorian bounty hunter named Din Djarin to retrieve him.

However, Djarin decided not to leave Grogu with the Imperials and rescued him from the Imperial Remnant's safe house. After attempting to hide with Grogu in the far reaches of the galaxy, Djarin returned to deal with the Imperials searching for Grogu, hoping to keep him safe. In the process, Grogu became a Mandalorian foundling and the only other member of the newly created clan of Djarin. As a result, Djarin undertook a new mission: deliver Grogu to the Jedi.

Djarin, along with Grogu, would travel the galaxy in search of any remaining Jedi. As advised by former Jedi Ahsoka Tano, Djarin would eventually travel with Grogu to Tython, where he would contact the Force to find another member of his kind. However, Grogu was captured by Gideon's Imperial forces and Djarin was forced to lead a rescue mission. After meeting with Grogu, Djarin handed him over to Luke Skywalker, a Jedi who agreed to care for the boy and train him in the ways of the Force.

Grogu spent a relatively short period of time training with Skywalker on a green planet, where Skywalker was building a Jedi Academy. However, Skywalker felt that the boy's heart was not in learning the way of the Jedi. After Djarin visited the planet bringing a gift of mail armor for Grogu, Skywalker presented him with a choice: accept the gift and return to the Mandalorian or take Yoda's lightsaber and continue his Jedi training. Grogu decided to return to Djarin and rejoined him on Tatooine in the midst of a gang war between the forces of Boba Fett, whom Djarin was aiding, and the Pyke Syndicate.

"He was raised in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Many masters trained him over the years. When the Clone Wars ended and the Empire rose to power, he went into hiding. Someone took him out of the temple. Then his memories became... .blurred.Looks lost.Alone.

Grogu was found by Din Djarin, a Mandalorian bounty hunter who was hired to hunt down the boy.

Around 9 ABY, Grogu had fallen into a Nikto camp on Arvala-7. The Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin, known as "the Mandalorian", was sent by a member of Gideon's Imperial remnant known as "the Client" and Imperial Doctor Pershing to capture Grogu alive, though the Client allowed Djarin to return to Grogu. dead for a lower price. The assassin droid IG-11 was sent to eliminate him. After working together to storm the camp where the foot soldier was being held, Djarin and IG-11 found Grogu. IG-11 attempted to kill the foot soldier, but Djarin shot the droid before he could.

Shortly after, Djarin brought the Grogu back to his ship, the Razor Crest. On the return trip, they were attacked by a trio of Trandoshan bounty hunters, who attempted to kill Grogu. After Djarin defeated them, he and Grogu camped in the desert for the night. As Djarin sat by the fire, Grogu ate one of the nearby creatures. He approached the bounty hunter, raising his hand to the Mandalorian's wounds. Djarin stopped him and put him back in his pod. The next day, the pair arrived at the Razor Crest only to find that he had been stung by Jawas. Djarin attacked his Sandcrawler for the stolen parts and attempted to climb it while Grogu followed in his pod. However, Djarin was knocked to the ground.
