-So I watched Rise of Skywalker again this weekend and I started noticing some eye opening parallels between Obi Wan and Anakin’s duel on Mustafar and Rey and Kylo’s duel on Kef Bir.
-Obviously, one duel is set within erupting fire, and the other is set within a raging ocean, but the heart of each conflict represent the same thing: The rebirth of someone’s heart.
-Anakin on Mustafar has already turned to the darkside. It’s like he’s falling into the darkness effortlessly, but it’s not until after he’s swallowed up in the lava that he accepts his new identity and furthermore, the death of his old self.
-On Kef Bir, Kylo is still very much scarred by what he did to his father. Unlike Anakin, he’s trying to prove that he abides in the darkness. After he feels the death of his mom, and Rey heals him, you see this wave symbolically wash over him, and like Anakin, he accepts his destiny and the death of his old self.
-Fire and water both signify a cleansing, a renewal.
-However, fire also represents desire, destruction, and passion. All trademark obsessions of the Sith. Not only is the fire exploding around Anakin, but it consumes and destroys him, giving birth to Darth Vader. Like a baptism by fire.
-poetically, water represents healing and purification. Not only is the ocean raging around him in battle, but it continuously washes over him throughout the duel. Consuming and destroying Kylo Ren whilst renewing Ben Solo.
-Both baptisms are outward signs of an inward change.
