Starchaser DVD cover
Starchaser Movie posterA heavy metal-styled animated film that was said by the New York Times, "such a brazen rip-off of George Lucas' Star Wars that you might think lawyers would have been called in".
Let's see the list of commonalities between Starchaser and Ep.4 A New Hope:
- The main protagonist finds a magic sword and with the guidance of a wise old man starts his quest to fight the tyrannical forces of the galaxy.
- a gunslinging smuggler that is indebted to a crime lord, who owns a fast starship, and by the end of the film grows a conscience through his interaction with the protagonist.
- a masked main antagonist that is later revealed to be a mechanical cyborg.
- a pair of sassy android characters that follow the protagonists.
- a princess that is captured by the main antagonist only to be rescued by the protagonists.
- The main protagonist wields a magic "force" to power the magic sword that is not realized until the end of the film which he uses to defeat the main antagonist.
These similarities as well as many more not mentioned here, along with well over a dozen straight shot-for-shot rips taken from the Original Trilogy, it's easy to see why this film didn't quite meet a welcome reception at the box office. Ironically enough the rights to the film were bought in 2012 with the buyers looking to perhaps create a "live-action" remake of the film🤣.
Just a funny tidbit I wanted to share with everyone, hope you enjoyed it, and May the Force Be With You, Always!
