When Anakin approaches Mace Windu about Chancellor Palpatine being the Sith Lord that the Jedi had been looking for, Windu had already been prepared to confront the Sith with other Jedi council members as the team of 4 go to confront Sidious. I have to wonder what the Jedi Council's plans were for this duel prior to its commencement and more specifically, what were their plans involving Anakin?
There was always the debate since this duel about whether or not Sidious threw this fight for long enough until Anakin showed up to observe the fight. Palpatine wanted Anakin to witness just how corrupt the Jedi were and how easily a Jedi Master (even of Windu's ranking) can be persuaded to do things against the Jedi way. When Anakin saw that Windu was about to assassinate Palpatine, he intervened, to Palpatine's pleasure, and cemented his future in the dark side and Sith way of life.
Palpatine had that plan. What plan did the Jedi have? Did Windu want Anakin to acknowledge that the Jedi would triumph over the Sith? Did he want Anakin to understand just how dangerous the Sith and dark side are (seeing the dead bodies of the other 3 Jedi masters, witnessing very powerful force lightning)? Did he want Anakin to prove himself as a Jedi?
At the end of the day, I can't believe that the Jedi did not have a plan for both the Sith Lord and Anakin before confronting Sidious. They were arrogant at that point in the clone wars, but they were not stupid. Something must have been discussed.
