Sabotage is a buzz droid's primary mission, making it one of the few military models that doesn't mark its success in body counts. But that doesn't make the Buzz droid any less dangerous-just ask a pilot stranded inside a dead starship as it leaks atmosphere into the cold vacuum outside. Pistoeka buzz droids are a product of the Colicoid Creation Nest. The cannibalistic Colicoids, who are also responsible for the droideka & tri-fighter, come from a planet crawling with insects (including themselves). The buzz droid is based on pisto, a pest eaten in Colla IV's tropical regions. When the Confederacy of Independent Systems demanded increased droid output from Colla IV during the Clone Wars, the Colicoids took their existing repair robots & modified them to become agents of sabotage. Legs folded, a buzz droid can seal itself inside a spherical shell less than a quarter of a meter in diameter. These melon-size balls are then loaded into the cylinder of a discord missile, which is typically carried by a vulture fighter (in space) or a droid gunship (in atmosphere). Discord missiles explode in front of their targets, spreading buzz droids into their enemies' flight paths. Their outer shell is made of a heat-dissipating material that allows it to penetrate most particle shields. Using a quartet of maneuvering thrusters to zip in close, a buzz droid splits open it protective casing & secures itself to the ship's hull with a magna-pod limb.

A flock of buzz droids, each carrying an electronic database of common starship schematics, can leave a ship dead & drifting in a matter of seconds. The default array of buzz droid weaponry includes a prying hook, a circular saw, a plasma-cutting torch, a picket appendage, a gripping pincer, & a drill head. When this last arm bores a hole in a ship's hull, an extendable computer probe can then splice itself into the ship's internal wiring. From that point, it's easy for the buzz droid to override the onboard systems & shut down weapons, engines, or life support. It can even fly the ship from its exterior perch. The droid perceives its surroundings through three photoreceptors that incorporate magnificent lenses, spectrum filters, & X-ray sensors. A hit to its central eye can knock a buzz droid offline. Buzz droids saw their first action relatively late in the Clone Wars. Consequently, the Colicoids were left with millions of unwanted units at the conflict's end. Some found use on vast scrap yards, such as those of Ronyards & Junction, helping their owners strip rusted hulks for usable parts. Elsewhere, buzz droids became popular on the gladiatorial circuit. Aficionados of the sport recall fondly the time a buzz droid took down a mighty Mark X executioner with the skillful application of a laser scalpel.
