If there’s one thing about clones that most always holds true it’s that’s they consider themselves all brothers. Because they consider themselves brothers it’s a rarity that we ever see them turn on each other with murderous intent. In almost every case of that it’s because of Order 66… with a few exceptions. That’s obviously not the case with the clone assassin we saw in episode 7, he’s clearly operating on his own free will as he claims to be a “believer”. So who is this clone and what is this belief that would make him murder his brothers?

As I said, there are a few exceptions where we have seen clones acting against their brothers with murderous intent.  One is Commander Fox who seems to have more than a few clone kills. It’s highly probable Fox was privy to Order 66, or at least the chips, because he killed Fives after he learned of the chip implanted in Tupp. He could have easily stunned Fives, but Fox’ intent was to prevent him from alerting the rest of the clones to the chip he discovered. Obviously, Fox is too important as the Coruscant Clone Commander to be this assassin.

The other example we’ve seen of a clone turning on his brothers is way back in the Clone Wars. There was a clone named Slick that was sympathetic to the CIS. He “believed” the Jedi were corrupt, and were using the clones to fight the worlds that wanted to break free of Republic oppression.

SlickSlick

Slick fed Republic information directly to Assaj Ventress and Count Dooku and helped set up an ambush that nearly killed Obi-Wan and Anakin. Slick was ultimately captured by Rex and Cody and his fate was never revealed. Could this assassin be Slick, and what other “work” has he done for the Empire, and for how long?
In addition, seeing the assassin this week the first thing I asked myself was “where’s Crosshair, this is usually his job?” Could it be that Crosshair didn’t do the job because he has gone AWOL? We have been shown a lot of scenes where Crosshair looks sullen and alone while being surrounded by his clone brothers. It’s pretty obvious they don’t consider CH as one of them. I think all signs have been pointing to CH going AWOL and Cody leaving was what pushed him to finally go. All the clones respect Cody, and I think him leaving said a lot to CH and given we didn’t actually see Cody go AWOL, I think it’s a possibility they won’t show Crosshair leaving as well.

What do you all think? Is Slick the assassin, and has Crosshair gone AWOL?
As always, thanks for taking a look. 🙏
