Nam Chorios, the planet of twilight, is one of the most desolate rocks ever to support human life. Originally established as a prison colony by the Grissmath Dynasty 750 years before the Galactic Civil War, Nam Chorios later became a flashpoint between the New Republic & the Empire & the setting for two lovers' final good-bye. When the first convicts we're deposited on Nam Chorios's parched hardpan, they saw a world covered with jagged mountains of crystal & quartz. Weak sunlight filtering through the translucent facets bathed everything in perpetual dusk. Unable to escape the prison world because of guard-operated gunstations, they survived by farming the scarce water seams. Generations passed. The children of the prisoners & guards joined together to keep their dismal crops from perishing. One farmer, a prophet named Theras, received a mysterious dream warning in which the rocks themselves seemed to be speaking to him: no ships large enough to carry drochs-the skittering black insects the Grissmaths had brought to the world-would ever leave the planet. Though the warning was cryptic, something was wrong with the Drochs. Theras's followers seized control of the planets gunstations & forbade entry & egress to anything larger than a starfighter.  Theras's dreams weren't the only oddity on Nam Chorios. For nearly a dead world it seemed to be bursting with life, creating a potent nexus in the Force. One Jedi, Beldorion the Hutt, went to the planet & used his newly enhanced abilities to rule the humble populace. Years later Senator Palpatine exiled his political rival, Seti Ashgad, to Nam Chorios.

Ashgad wrested control from the indolent Beldorion the Hutt & spearheaded a master plan. Discovering that crystals-"smokies" the locals called them-could be used in synthdroids & needle fighters, Ashgad struck a deal. He would take over the Theran gunstations & give the Loronar Corporation free access to strip-mine smokies. The Imperial fleet would invade the surrounding Meridian sector, since the New Republic would be preoccupied by an unexplainable outbreak of the Death Seed plague. At a secret diplomatic meeting Ashgad kidnapped Leia Organa Solo & unleashed the Death Seed. Tiny, squirming Drochs were the vectors of the devastating epidemic-harmless on their homeworld, they become life drinkers when off it. As disease & panic spread across the sector, Ashgad took his captive princess to Nam Chorios.

Droch

Luke Skywalker had also gone to the barren world, searching for his lost love, Callista. After Leia escaped from Ashgad's fortress, the two siblings were reunited at the Bleak Point gunstation. They revealed Seti Ashgad's deceitful scheme to the locals, but it was too late. One fanatic destroyed the cannon, clearing a safe path for Ashgad's ship Reliant & its cargo of smokies-& Drochs-to reach orbit.

Out of options, Luke made contact with the planet's dominant lifeform: the crystals. The Smokies were alive. Convincing them of the Droch threat, Luke watched as the Reliant's cargo of Smokies detonated in a dazzling flare. Afterward, Luke saw Callista once again. Though they still loved each other, they realized that their lives lay along different paths. With a simple gesture of farewell Callista departed from Luke's life but not his heart.
