Engagement Mining Rewards Update

Included in 4.1 is an update to the Engagement Mining program.

As discussed in previous announcements, as BBS Network evolves so must the Engagement Mining program. The purpose of the Engagement Mining program is, and has been, to fuel the initial growth of the BBS Network. As such, these updates to the program are designed to better reward organic board growth and activity over the previous iteration. Instead of scoring boards based on a rolling average of impressions - boards will now be scored by their average Daily Active Users combined with their Growth Factor. Boards that bring more organic users to the BBS Network and show community growth will receive a higher proportion of the daily rewards.

Rewards Formula

Score = DAU(d) + GF(d)

DAU = 28 day moving average of daily active users

GF = AvgDAU(1d) - AvgDAU(28d ago)

With this formula, boards that are seeing community growth will receive extra rewards proportionally - while placing the emphasis on how many active users a board can bring to the network instead of how many impressions they generate.

In order to find the total rewards for a board, the board Score is multiplied by both the base CPM ($50/1000) and the network average of impressions per user.

Rewards = Score * AvgImpression * BaseCPM

Dynamic CPM

With this formula used to find the total board rewards, there is also a Dynamic CPM being implemented for each board which will be calculated daily. The CPM calculated each day will take into account the number of impressions a community generates in a day along with the total amount of rewards it receives.

CPM* = Rewards / BoardImpressions*1000

*CPM capped at $70

This means that the CPM for a board will be based on the board's score and their average impression per user compared to the defined network average. With this formula, communities are incentivized to ensure board activity is organic and discourages inflating user activity. Organic board activity will lead to a higher CPM, while inflated activity will reduce the board's CPM.

Please note that with these formulas the total amount of rewards a board received will not be affected by the CPM given - only the amount distributed per impression will change, except in the case of a board reaching the maximum $70 CPM. In a future update, upon a board reaching the maximum CPM, any excess amount rewarded over the maximum will be distributed to the community team with manual distribution encouraged. Overall, the total value of tokens distributed in the network should remain roughly the same as prior to the update.

Rewards Page

To reflect these changes, we have also implemented an update to the Rewards page.

The Rewards page now shows new metrics, including the Daily Active Users, Publishers/Commenters, and a 90d graph of the rolling average of Daily Active Users.

Please note that this new model for Engagement Mining needs to be tested in a live environment in order to ensure stability. There may be bugs found initially that will be addressed with future updates. Any bugs discovered can be reported here on METABBS with details.

To ensure there’s enough data from the new model to draw upon, Transition 5 of the Engagement Mining program will be temporarily delayed and will come with an updated criteria for Engagement Mining approval.

Moderation Activity Log

Another addition of 4.1 is the Moderation Activity Log. Within the Activity tab of the board, a "Moderation" subsection can now be found for board owners and moderators.

The Moderation log will show any moderator action taken, such as a ban, hiding a post, etc., along with the reason the moderator has given for the action.

Moderators will now be prompted for a reason when hiding a post or banning a user, which will be displayed in the activity log.

Mobile App Banner

A small graphic has been added to the web application of BBS Network - directing users towards the BBS Network mobile application.

The mobile app is currently released in Beta on both Android and iOS, so if you haven't checked it out yet make sure to give it a try!
