We've had a few Star Wars shows now and we seem to be getting a fairly consistent pattern.  We start out with a potentially strong character and an interesting concept, then slip into action and tend towards letting the character part slip.

For example, the concept of Mando was very interesting. A quiet type, all about money, who changed everything for the sake of a child. The further we got into the show, the less we learned about Mando as a person and the more we saw of action scenes, cameos, and larger scale storytelling (in the sense of things that affect a larger portion of the universe rather than just Mando).  I've enjoyed Mando, but I was expecting something a bit more small scale and character driven.

Similarly for Kenobi, we started with a very small scale view of his day-to-day and then skipped to galaxy-impacting action.  Again, I was expecting something smaller scale and, in this case, more psychological.  We've definitely gotten some of the psychological aspects, but not as the main focus.  Also enjoying it overall, but that's a different topic!

So, my question is this: What are the chances of Disney ever producing a character study or even a show outside the standard genre?  Kenobi seemed like the perfect opportunity for this kind of story. Something driven very much by the internal struggles of an individual, rather than by galaxy-spanning events or conflicts.  Personally, I'd love to see this!  They wouldn't have to give up on action scenes or even cameos if they're creative with it.  Bad Batch feels the closest to this at the moment, I think.  (Technically, Book of Boba too, but... that show didn't work at all for me.)  For now, I get the feeling that Disney won't allow it because it's not flashy enough or doesn't fit the formula...

I also think it would cool in general if we could get a few genre-blending shows out there.  That was part of the original appeal of Mando for me (and something I hope they'll pick up again) - just a dude in the universe, space western style.  Star Wars has certainly produced every genre imaginable through the EU - especially in the Legends works.  Mysteries, horror, comedy, and so on, all blended up with Star Wars. They've at least edged this way, so maybe it's possible!  Maybe?

What do you all think?  Is it even possible they'll try something out of the box?
