Hi everyone! We’re back for another instalment of Malak. This episode is gonna be really good. We think you’ll enjoy it.
3,946 BBY - Ossus, abandoned Jedi Enclave
Malak slowly walked around the statues in the Ossus Jedi Enclave, sensing that this place had a strong connection to the Force. He had recently come to the conclusion that the only way he could truly defeat Revan was to reinvent himself as a Jedi, and so, the Council sent him to their long-abandoned Jedi Enclave on Ossus for him to face The Jedi Trials once more.
Malak remembered when he staged a full-scale invasion of Ossus at the end of The Jedi Civil War and also heard the cries of death coming from all the Jedi he and Darth Bandon struck down on that day with each step he took.
But then, Malak suddenly felt a cold wisp of air breathe down his back just when he entered the room where Jedi Padawans normally took The Jedi Trials. All Malak could see was darkness. “What the…” Before Malak could finish, the ground beneath him suddenly collapsed, as he fell into a dark abyss below.
However, Malak then saw what appeared to be a long vine hanging from a hole in the roof of the Enclave, and reached out with the Force, pulling the vine towards him and grabbing onto it with his cybernetic hand, as he swung towards a nearby platform and landed softly on it once he let go of the vine.
Malak looked around, sensing that someone, or something, else was here too. He had a very vague memory of The Jedi Trials and what they were like. After all, it had been many years since the man once known as Alek took such trials and became a Jedi Knight.
That same cold wind then breathed down Malak’s back once more, catching him by surprise and causing him to ignite his Lightsaber in the darkness, illuminating the room the color of fire. Malak hastily paced around the room, checking his surroundings for anything that was lurking in the shadows, until he heard a voice that made even him shake with terror. “Welcome, Darth Malak. I have been expecting you for quite sometime now…”
Malak turned to where he heard that voice and couldn’t see anything in the darkness, but sensed that someone was here. “Show yourself at once.” What followed Malak’s words would be the ignition of a blue Saberstaff that revealed a man with long hair and eyes as orange as a dying star. Malak recognized this man as the ancient Sith Lord, Exar Kun, a Jedi Knight that fell to the Dark Side and created his own Sith Rebellion with Ulic Qel-Droma and waged war on the Jedi in The Great Sith War.
Malak tightened the grip on his own blade, as he stared at Kun in the darkness. “Exar Kun… how can this be? You died several years ago at Yavin IV…” Kun chuckled, but didn’t say anything back to Malak, as he marched towards Malak with his double-bladed Lightsaber in his dominant hand, until he used Force Speed to dash towards Malak and began to duel him.
Malak couldn’t help but admit Kun was much faster than he anticipated as they fought in the darkness, with Malak only seeing flashes of red and blue, until he managed to Force Push Exar across the platform they were standing on.
However, Kun only softly skidded across the ground and smirked. “THINK, Malak; I have survived many battles where a normal soldier would easily be killed. Do you really believe you can strike me down???” Malak charged towards Kun once more and locked blades with him once again, but this time, Malak kicked Kun in the face and sliced him across the back with his Lightsaber.
But to Malak’s utter shock, Exar Kun didn’t seem at least a little bit phased by that surprise attack from Malak. In fact, it appeared as if Exar actually embraced the pain as some sort of soothing manner rather than feeling scarred by it, let alone, injured at all.
“HOW is this even possible!?!? How were you not able to even feel that attack???” Kun laughed loudly, as he looked back at Malak. “I thought you learned that the Dark Side has many abilities in store for an individual after your old Master was raised from the dead. Many of those abilities can serve someone well in a comforting way, but many of those abilities can also lead to rather unnatural consequences..”
Before Malak even saw it coming, Kun crushed the ground beneath his opponent with the Force and caused Malak to lose his footing and fall once again. As he was falling into the abyss, Malak saw the broken pieces of half of the platform falling with him, and grabbed onto one piece with his prosthetic arm, hauling himself onto the massive chunk of rock.
Upon seeing this, Exar Kun’s face went from delight to complete and utter shock, as he threw his Lightsaber towards Malak’s head with the intention of decapitating him, but Malak dodged Exar’s Saberstaff and used the Force to jump all the way up to where Kun himself was located, kicking him in the face and stabbing him through the back with his Lightsaber.
Kun howled in pain, before Malak kicked him over the edge of the platform into the abyss below, watching Exar explode in a burst of Dark Side Force energy when he hit the ground, until Malak’s surroundings suddenly changed and he found himself back at the entrance to the Enclave itself.
Malak heard his comlink beeping on his belt and took it off, hearing the voice of Marcus Halcyon through the miniature loudspeaker on the device. “Did you find what you were looking for in the Enclave, Malak?” Malak looked back at the Enclave for a moment, before speaking into the comlink. “Whatever was here before is gone now, Halcyon. But yes, I completed The Jedi…” Before Malak could finish, the comlink in his hand suddenly flew from his fingers and was crushed by another man standing there. Emperor Revan himself had arrived. “Hello, Malak. It’s good to see you again..”
That’s it! Hope you’ve enjoyed the series so far and found it a bit less confusing than the first one. As always, drop a line if you enjoyed, comment your favourite bit, and we’ll see you next week!
