I was talking with DF it is very hard to change his mind. But nevertheless I thought I would make this post anyways here is why Rey is a Mary-Sue and Luke Skywalker is not just to clarify DF didn't say Luke is a Gary-Stu I'm just comparing the two characters.
Okay let's begin. Rey starts off as a broken character in the opening minutes of TFA she seems interesting and mysterious but she is on a desert planet which is a pure rip off of ANH she wonders where her place is in the Galaxy and wants her family to return to help her this is the only "larger struggle" Rey goes through there are barely any more they are miniscule for the story anyways. Rey is with BB-8 in a market and BB-8 sees Finn you know the story anyways Rey chases Finn and pulls a Rambo guerilla warfare technique appearing in front of him hitting him in the face with her staff. First off where the heck did she come from?!? The movie provides no evidence of her knowing guerilla warfare and Finn immediately forgives her after she hit him in the face with a freaking stick I'd be pretty pissed if somebody randomly starts chasing me and hits me in the gosh dang face with a freaking stick! Anyways some First Order troops or in other words budget Imperials show up and they start to run to a ship which Rey expertly flies she flies better than Han and Chewbacca combined in this scene. Now before you say Oh WeLl ShE fIxEs ShIpS sHe WoUlD kNoW hOw To FlY OnE well that's BS just because you fix a ship doesn't mean you can fly one on a expert level! People say Luke is a Gary-Stu because he destroyed the first Death Star well I'll have you know Luke was a expert pilot he grew up flying ships. He flew ships that were similar to X-Wings on Tatooine Rey did not! That's the 2nd thing Rey does flawlessly in the first 10-20 minutes of the film. Rey gets captured by Kylo Ren and he tries to read her mind which first off she resists okay she must have a strong mind nope now she reads Kylo's mind without any Jedi training that right there is another flawless thing Rey has done. It's also worth a mention Rey is loved by every "virtuous" character she comes across. Rey then escaped from the prison chair by mind tricking a Stormtrooper with no training! Rey didn't even know what the Force was until 5 minutes ago in the film! Another flawless thing Rey has done. She successfully avoids professional guards and security cameras lol and pulls a absolutely outstanding professional wall climbing move by climbing down and up the wall something only a extremely fit rock climber could pull. *Flawless* She then defeats a fully trained "Sith" without any lightsaber combat and before you say WeLl ShE hAd StTaFf TrAiNiNg well that's BS a bunch of expert swordsman have debunked this argument staff combat and sword combat are to completely different things if you give a swordsman a staff and tell him to professionally fight a professional staff fighter he will be destroyed vice versa.
Well in TLJ she once again flies a ship without any ship flight experience and she lifts 44 GIANT BOULDERS! A lot of these rocks are over a ton some of them are a size that starts at 4320 pounds!!! That is the biggest feat Rey pulls flawlessly besides defeating Sidious now keep in mind she has trained but she can also float something we have never seen ever before in Star Wars so Rey can now float and lift 44 rocks that weigh from anywhere between 4000 pounds and 10 thousand pounds wow what a Mary-Sue. All credit goes to EmperorBinks for this according to his calculations on average those stones weigh 308,000 pounds or 139,706.45 kg. Luke's X-Wing weighed 22,046.2 pounds or 9999.98 kg. Those stones weighed almost 14 times as much as an X-Wing. So unless 2 days of training can beat Luke 2 months of training and can let Rey lift 14 X-Wings at the same time, then she is definitely a Mary Sue. DF seems to think she can do this because she read the Jedi texts but she didn't have enough time to read or train from them so that's a false argument right there.
After Rey and chewie and other characters come of the Millenium Falcon Leia completely ignores her friend who she has known for 20 years and decides to hug Rey instead. One of the dumbest things and completely ruins Leia's character and Chewbacca just lost his best friend he has known for 30 years she doesn't even comfort him and instead hugs the worst movie character of all time.
She also had no clear motive to help or join the Resistance as Binks just mentioned in the live chat. Also just because she is a Palpatine means nothing sure she might have a high Midichlorian count but Anakin had the highest and we don't see him lifting boulders that weigh 10 thousand pounds and he is even professionally trained since he was 9 years old.
There is a bunch more Mary-Sue things she does throughout the ST that I did not mention cause I want to do other things. We also see no character development throughout all 3 movies she is always the same boring flawless character and in order to have character development you cannot be a Mary-Sue
She also defeats the most powerful Sith lord to ever exist with ease sure she had help from Force ghosts but still REY IS NOT ALL THE JEDI!
She is also ridiculously brave to do anything she shows no fear whatsoever shows how garbage the writers and directors were at writing a character that had so much potential.
Here is my closing argument. Rey is a flawless and best representation of a Mary-Sue through out any television series or movie we have ever seen. She does things without training or struggle and she can even float something we haven't even seen the likes of Yoda do.
