Hello everyone,

I haven't posted for a while as I have been very busy with my first year of college and am already loaded up to the brim with schoolwork. However, I have managed to shift things around enough for me to bring you this short but interesting post. Today's topic will be Darth Vader, but more specifically when he threw Palpatine down the reactor core of the Second Death Star in ROTJ. Now, most people believe that by doing this he brought balance to the Force, by defeating the dark side and making the light triumphant. But I have a different belief, which I shall share with you today. So without further ado, I will tell you why Darth Vader did not bring balance to the Force as most believe.

In order to delve into how Darth Vader failed to bring balance to the Force, we need to look at the definition of balance itself. According to Dictionary.com, balance is defined as: a state of equilibrium or equipoise; equal distribution of weight, amount, etc. This means that in order for there to be balance, there has to be an equal amount of two or more things. If we apply this to the Star Wars universe, more specifically the Force, the Force was almost never in balance. In fact, the time when it would have been in balance the most was in the Old Republic where there were as many Sith running around as there were Jedi. When Darth Bane defeated his Sith brethren and made the Rule of Two, that put the Force even more out of balance than it already was, as there were possibly millions of Jedi and only two Sith.

The next time that the Force would have been as close to balance as possible was when Anakin turned to the dark side and initiated Order 66. This ensured that thousands of Jedi died, leaving only approximately 100 or so survivors, with only around 4 Sith being alive at that time (Palpatine, Vader, Maul, and Ventress). This was the closest that the Force had been to balance for millennia, as the numbers of Jedi and Sith were far more similar. Then, as Vader recruited his Inquisitors during the age of the Galactic Empire, the Sith's numbers grew, while the Jedi's continued to shrink due to Vader wiping them out. The closest that the Force would have been to balance was in A New Hope, where the only Force users that we know of then were Yoda, Obi-Wan, Vader and Sidious. That was almost perfect balance, but there were undoubtedly more Jedi survivors roaming around.

Now we've come to when Vader chucks Palpatine down the shaft on the Second Death Star. Most people, including Luke and Vader himself, believed that the Force was in balance at that point. It was not. There were practically no more Sith left, apart from Palpatine's clones, Baylen Scroll, and Shyn Hatti, but we won't count those two as they are more Force-wielding mercenaries than Sith. The main Jedi in this period were Luke and Ahsoka. This was not balance. This was the opposite of balance. There was only one side of the Force still being used - the Light side. The scales were fully tipped. With one side of the Force essentially wiped out, the Jedi were in full control. Again, not balance. After this point in time, there were always more Jedi than Sith. Never in the Star Wars universe has there ever been true balance, except for the long-forgotten time before the Force was even discovered. That was the only true time of balance, where there was no light and no dark.

I hope that this post was informative and interesting. It was very fun for me to think if Vader actually did bring balance or not. In my opinion, he did not. No-one did. There were always more Jedi than Sith. I hope to post a bit more when my schedule eases up a bit as the year goes on but that is looking pretty unlikely at the moment. Until then, remember, the Force has chosen you. Have a great day ✌️
