In my post with a rewrite of the scene where Kylo kills Snoke in TLJ, I mentioned that I was considering rewriting the duel in the same movie. The last one I wrote took me a little bit to make, and I put a lot of action in it (in hindsight maybe too much). So, with this one, I want to tone down the action and focus more on the interaction between the two characters. I hope you enjoy this, and I’d be glad to hear anything that you would have done differently.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In this version of the fight, Luke would be physically on Crait and confronting Kylo in person, as I believe that would give Luke’s sacrifice more depth than simply vanishing on a rock. They would fight harder, with Luke dodging his nephew’s lightsaber strikes but making attacks of his own, and eventually Luke would use his free hand to hit Kylo’s, sending the lightsaber flying several feet away and leaving Kylo with a broken hilt. Kylo would fall to the ground and taunt Luke, telling him to finish what he failed to all that time ago, but Luke would say, “We all make mistakes, Ben. And it was my mistake that set you on the path to yours.” Kylo telekinetically pulls the lightsaber back toward him, activating it as it passes right behind his uncle’s back. As the glowing red blade flashes through his chest, Luke warns Kylo that “Just because you’ve killed your master doesn’t mean you aren’t still a tool,” before collapsing to the ground before him.
