Not Many People Can Handle the Power of the Dark Side!
The Dark Side of the Force is a truly powerful weapon. Its practitioners have been regarded as some of the strongest force users in the saga. With this list, we will be focusing on highlighting some of the most powerful and influential Sith of all time. You may see some names missing off of this list (such as Nihilus, Revan, Dooku, etc.). For a more detailed reason for each entry, stay tuned for the end of the article.
Maul is a very topical entry on this list. His appearance in SOLO shocked many viewers, and excited fans on new stories he could be involved in. While Darth Maul wasn’t know for his powerful force abilities, he was notable for being an amazing fighter. He was infamous for having a huge pain threshold and a vast knowledge of fighting techniques. Maul was the perfect Sith assassin.
Darth Krayt deserves notoriety at the very least for the amount of time he lived. His 185 years of life were spent as a Jedi, a sand person, a Yuuzhan Vong lab rat, and eventually a Lord of the Sith. He spearheaded the group known as “One Sith” and went on a conquest to seek eternal life. A master of light-saber combat, as well as a master manipulator, Krayt adapts to any situation.
When we talk about powerful and influential Sith, it’s almost impossible not to talk about Marka Ragnos. Ragnos was an early Sith master who lived 5000 years before the events of the movies. He spent decades on the throne and even ruled the order from beyond the grave. His spirit would go on to exist in his temple for over 4000 years and still caused havoc throughout the galaxy. Marka surely enjoys being at the top.
What more can you say about Vader? He is the perfect representation of the path to the Dark Side. Pain leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads to suffering. Anakin let each one of those emotions get the best of him and Darth Vader is the final product of it all. While he became incredibly powerful once he made the transition to a dark lord, his cybernetics were a major hindrance to his potential. More machine than man, Vader became a mechanized monstrosity.
Darth Bane is someone who really affected the movies even if you didn’t know it. He was the one who first started the rule of two. “Two there should be; no more, no less. One to embody power, the other to crave it.” He single-handedly destroyed the Sith Order he was a part of to set the events we see in Revenge of the Sith in motion. Darth Bane was an imposing figure, but despite his brute strength, his mind was truly brilliant. Bane proved to himself and the entire universe that only the strongest can survive.
Emperor Palpatine is a Sith master in every sense of the title. He was the epitome of the Rule of Two, and one of the most powerful force beings in history. He was the puppeteer behind the Clone Wars and positioned himself perfectly into the highest level of power in the senate … all while being strong enough in the Force to defeat multiple Jedi masters and reduce victims to dust with his force lightening. Darth Sidious proved time and time again that he always had a plan and knew the exact way to see it to completion. Sidious can only be described with two words: “unlimited power!”
The Choice is Purely Subjective
The power of any character from the Galaxy Far Far Away is a hard thing to quantify. These are six amazingly brilliant villains who showcase the depth of what the Star Wars universe has to offer. Each Sith connects with everyone on some level, whether negatively or positively.
How would you arrange these six? Would Vader be #1, and Ragnos at #6? Or would you not have picked any of these? Star Wars is art, and art is always up for interpretation.
To hear where all of these Sith fall in their power rankings and to see how these six were chosen, listen to the latest episode of Chatter Squadron. They cover news out of E3, and go in depth into each one of these characters.
