Hey Star Wars fans.
My name is Stuart Lee Abrams and I’ve been asked by Tyler to write a weekly column for this club.
What goes into this column will however be in some part up to you. I have certain things regrading the SW universe that I want to talk about, but I also suspect strongly that the same is true for those of you reading this. So don’t be shy. Tell me what you want to see, and I’ll work it in (if it’s appropriate, and if it’s also not obscene, offensive, etc; you’re all adults, presumably, you know the drill).
A little Bit About Me.
I’ve been a SW fan since the first movie (which I adamantly refuse to call, A New Hope).
I’m also a Star Trek fan, which I hope no one will hold against me. I write science fiction, as well, and claim Star Wars as one of the major inspirations pushing me into writing. I’ve been writing since I was in grade school, but it was watching SW on the silver screen for the first time that got me seriously thinking about writing.
Of course, at the time I didn’t see it that way. All I knew then was that this movie was the best movie not only that I had ever seen; it was the best movie I was ever likely to see. That’s life at 14, I suppose. I must have seen that first movie a dozen times over that summer, maybe more than that. Back then a matineé was $2.50, and a bus ride to the theater was $.25, and no one got upset if you sat in the theater for two showings (which I did on more than one occasion).
Back then nothing was bad for you, either. Smoking was cool, there was no global warming, and life was generally benevolent for a certain young man living in Goleta, California. Star Wars was like icing on a cake that -unbeknownst to me then- would never get any sweeter.
But I digress.
I’m a Star Wars fan, have been since the first movie. I hope to hear from you fellow fans, as
we ponder and speculate about what has happened and will happen next a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.
