The SADDEST and MOST Beautiful DROID Story in Star Wars CANON – Star Wars Comics Explained
OK, so when we first saw Threepio for the first time since Return of the Jedi in Episode VII, we got to see him with a new, red arm which begged the question; how did he get it? Having been torn apart in one way or the other in basically every Star Wars movie before the sequels, we automatically knew he’d gotten into trouble somewhere or other, but the canon reason (taken from the Marvel C2-PO comic) is actually more surprising and frankly moving than you might imagine.
So, picture the scene: On a mission to find and rescue Admiral Ackbar, Threepio and a group of other resistance droids and humans crash land on a planet leaving the humans dead. They have a captive RA-7 protocol droid (remember the Death Star droid from A New Hope? Yep, he’s one of those) who they originally brought on the mission to take them to Admiral Ackbar.
While walking together, Threepio and the captive droid have a deep discussion about droids having the free will to choose sides and possibly having real emotions. It soon becomes apparent that Threepio can remember things from before his memory wipe at the end of Revenge of the Sith (which opens up a whole new can of worms which I will go into in more depth in the next video).
If you check out today’s star wars Theory video below, I tell you exactly how Threepio got his red arm and what it has to do with his meeting the captive droid.
