Listen to This Music and You’ll be Transported into the Star Wars Universe and Your Childhood
Hey guys. I was sent a beautiful piece of music created by fellow Star Wars fan and musician, Yoann Garel. As you can imagine, the site gets many fan creations sent in, but this piece really stood out and I wanted you to experience it too.
Yoann himself has added some words about the piece, so after you’ve read it, put on your headphones, close your eyes and take a nostalgic journey into the world of the original trilogy.
Over to Yoann…
As a huge fan of both George Lucas and John Williams, I wanted this musical experience to bring back the emotions I had as a child while watching the movies on VHS. Hopefully, it will also bring back memories for the listener too.
“Princess Leia’s Theme” by John Williams must be one of the most haunting and instantly recognisable melodies from the entire Star Wars saga. It was important to to me that I retained the melancholic score and original feeling of the piece, rewriting it only slightly so it could fit the original score from start to end. I also wanted the drums to be discrete and give the listener the impression of a beating heart.
About the voices, dialogue and sound design: At the start of the piece, you can hear the infamous call for help from Princess Leia with Darth Vader’s breathing in the background. To retain a sense of the familiar, I tried to keep the samples chronologically in line with the events of the movies. From Tusken Raider’s battle cries, to Luke’s meeting with Obi -Wan Kenobi, through to escaping from Mos Eisley in the Millennium Falcon, I wanted you to feel as you did when you first experienced the movies.
All the sounds I’ve used in the piece have been indelibly imprinted on my memory and I hope by listening to it, you will be transported back to your childhood.
