NEW Obi Wan Kenobi Movie News! – Star Wars Explained
Great news guys, there’s some solid information concerning the much anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi movie. I know a lot of you would have preferred to see either a Boba Fett or Yoda standalone movie, but it looks like it’s definitely going to be a Kenobi film after all.
Code named Joshua Tree and set in a desert, the movie begins production in early 2019. The film could be released just one year later in 2020, one year after Star Wars Episode IX’s release according to omegaunderground.com.
According to the website, Stephen Daldry could be directing, but it’s yet unknown if Ewan McGregor will reprise the role. I personally think he will. He’s previously expressed an interest in returning to the Star Wars franchise, he’s the right age canon wise and well, he’s the Obi-Wan we all know and love from the prequels. It would be a no brainier to use him.
The reason for the code name Joshua Tree possibly refers to the national park of the same name situated in South California, a possible shooting locale. The original trilogy shot scenes in nearby Death Valley and surrounding locations, so it would make sense to shoot there.
I really hope this movie goes ahead. There’s so much rich material to draw from across a long time period. If there is any further new about the film, I will let you know as soon as I hear anything. Fingers crossed it will get the go ahead we’ve all been waiting for.
