NEW Star Wars Trilogy News from Rian Johnson (NO OLD REPUBLIC)
Judging by the poll we did a after the news broke about Rian Johnson directing the new Star Wars Trilogy and comments on social media, it seemed that most of you wanted the Old Republic to be the subject of the new movies. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen now.
While being sympathetic to the fans who wanted an Old Republic trilogy, Johnson is adamant that it’s not going to happen.
Talking to Mahable‘s Laura Prudom at a The Last Jedi press release last Sunday, Johnson had the following to say:
“Oh, they love Knights of the Old Republic. I played that game when it first came out and it was like, god, I loved it. Yeah, that’s a fantastic game. And I understand it, the instinct to automatically go to something that you know and love, that you’ve already seen.”
After The Old Republic issue was put firmly to bed, he want on to say:
“I’m in the very, very beginning phases of trying to think about it so I don’t know yet,” he says. “I’m still figuring out what it’s gonna be.”
When you put all these statements together with the official line from Lucasfilm being: “In shepherding this new trilogy, which is separate from the episodic Skywalker saga, Johnson will introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored”, it becomes abundantly clear that there will be no Old Republic movies. It is shame in one way, but the thought of a whole new, never explored before saga will bet as exciting a prospect to many Star Wars fans. The very fact that there will be a new Star Wars trilogy at all makes it a good time to be a fan.
In today’s Star Wars Theory video (see below), there’s plenty more information on this news as well as theories and speculation as to what the new trilogy could be about. You can also check out more videos like this over at the Star Wars Theory YouTube channel.
