Since fans first caught a glimpse of the Resistance Ski Speeder slam into the mineral laden planet of Crait, speculation has run rampant about what role they will play in The Last Jedi. Thankfully with the arrival of Force Friday, fans will be able to get an early peak at what is sure to be one of these most exciting aspects of the newsiest addition to the Star Wars Saga.
The Resistance Ski Speeder is a noticeable shift for Hasbro. With the release of both The Force Awakens and Rogue One, vehicles have seen a significant change for collectors who are accustomed to what was released in the Legacy and Vintage Collection line. “NERF” features had been incorporated into a great deal of what has been released with the last two films, while paint detail and screen accuracy had seemed to be sacrificed in order to appeal to a younger demographic. Although these play features are innovative and exciting in their own right, collectors sought more screen accurate representations of what has been seen in the new Star Wars films. However, it appears as though Hasbro has taken all criticisms and suggestions in stride and have made a great effort to provide both young fans and adult collectors with product that both reflects accuracy and exciting play features.
The ship favors a more traditional approach to weapon firing mechanisms. The Ski Speeder features two removable missiles that blend seamlessly into the ship that have the ability to be launched via a simple, spring loaded trigger located on the bottom handle of the vehicle. This handle is also molded to act as a stabilizing strut, which according to the official Star Wars Databank are used,
“ … to keep balance when zipping across alien terrain.”
Another improvement to be noted would be the inclusion of screen accurate landing gears which have seemingly been sacrificed with the majority of the most recent vehicles released by Hasbro. The Resistance Ski Speeder also features an great amount of sculpted and painted detail, battle damage, wing blast-off action, and and Force Link capabilities.
The Resistance Ski Speeder also includes Captain Poe Dameron which features five points of articulation: a ball jointed head and swivels at both his shoulders and hips. His outfit (which seems to have taken inspiration from Han Solo’s The Force Awakens outfit) features a working holster and blaster pistol.
The Resistance Ski Speeder is certain to be a hit with both collectors and young fans. It offers a multitude of features that include play-ability and screen accuracy. With this vehicle it is now apparent that Hasbro has a greater understanding of the potential for the Star Wars line moving forward.
