Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi may be mere months from its theatrical release, but fans of the galaxy far, far away will get their first tangible glimpse of the new film on September 1st, 2017 at midnight. “Force Friday II,” a follow up to the event that launched The Force Awakens, will showcase the first available merchandise for the new film and perhaps shed insight in regards to what we can expect in the next chapter of the Star Wars saga.
Much of what will be revealed on “Force Friday II” will be in the form of 3 ¾” action figures, which are a part of Hasbro’s basic action figure line. Returning characters such as Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo Ren will also share shelf space will new characters such as Rose (Resistance Technician) and her sister Paige (Resistance Gunner). Jedi Master Luke Skywalker (as seen in The Force Awakens) will finally see release after much demand and anticipation. The “Black Series” 6” super articulated line will feature previously mentioned characters such as Rey (Jedi Training) and Luke Skywalker as well as fan favourites such as the recently re-canonised Grand Admiral Thrawn. Worthy to note, Hasbro will also be releasing a large, transforming BB-8/First Order Star Destroyer play set which will include the figure debut of Supreme Leader Snoke.
Also new for this incarnation of “Force Friday,” a new augmented reality experience dubbed “Find The Force” will let Star Wars fans unlock new “The Last Jedi” characters on their smart phones through the official Star Wars app by scanning logos at the retail locations where the new merchandise will be available. President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, shared her excitement about the new experience:
“ ‘Force Friday II’ is a major milestone in the countdown to Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Star Wars has always championed new technology, and we are excited that augmented reality will allow fans to experience the universe in a whole new way.”
“Force Friday II” will surely excite fans and collectors as we all anxiously await the release of “The Last Jedi” on December 15th, 2017.
