Star Wars The Last Jedi: Rey Has 3 New Jedi Powers
With the upcoming release of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and “Star Wars Battlefront 2,” many have begun to deconstruct potential spoilers within the game that may correlate to the film. The latest confirmed addition to the video game surrounds Rey’s new force powers which raises questions about how and if they relate to “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
The new confirmed powers are labeled as “Dash Strike,” “Mind Trick,” and “Insight.” Reportedly, the description of each of these powers conveys an evolution in Rey’s abilities as she undergoes training from Luke himself. The “Dash Strike” is described as an aggressive forward charge with her lightsaber held high, knocking back any enemies caught in her path. “Mind Trick” causes enemies to become disoriented and confused rendering them temporarily incapacitated. “Insight” is more of a focus power that has the effect of revealing any new enemies in her surrounding area.
What’s truly fascinating about this reveal in “Battlefront 2” is how it lines up with some of what we have seen in the trailer and what we know about Rey from “The Force Awakens.” From her battle with Kylo Ren we see an aggressive lightsaber style that resembles Form V (Darth Vader/Anakin). While this may be a bit of a pre-emptive assumption since her style is more raw and unrefined, we do see that her strengths lie in her lightsaber held high while being on the offensive. The “Dash Strike” power would make applicable sense based off of what we already know. The “Mind Trick” ties in a lot of what we’ve seen in “The Force Awakens” that may be further developed in “The Last Jedi.” During the interrogation scene with Kylo Ren we see that Rey not only resists Ren’s mind powers but uses her own to counter his attack. After she realizes her abilities she uses these powers to “mind trick” a Stormtrooper into releasing her. As to whether or not she develops this power further, that has yet to be seen. Finally, for the “Insight” power we can see use of that in her implied training from Luke in “The Last Jedi” trailer. Force awareness is a common attribute of most Jedi, but Rey’s training may have a more intense focus as we are led to speculate.
